Doer get back to winning ways

12:51pm Wednesday 25th January 2012

Cwmffrwdoer Sports Club got back to their winning ways with a gutsy performance at Lucas Cwmbran on Saturday. Both sides had to contend with a poor playing surface, and it was the hosts who took the lead on 10 minutes with a well taken header.

Within five minutes the Doer were level when Chris Wilkins turned the ball past the advancing keeper from close range, with the heavy uncut surface playing a major part on the outcome of the game, the Doer tried to play their normal pass and move game, which was proving very difficult. Lucas retained their lead with a penalty, with Chris Bradbury levelling for the Doer a minute later.

Some mistimed tackles on Doer speedster Dan Jenkins resulted in a few yellow cards for the hosts, and it was Jenkins who gave the Doer the lead with a trademark goal sprinting through the Lucas defence, before beating the keeper with ease.

Again credit to Lucas they soon pegged another goal back with a fortuitous cross which drifted into the Doer net leaving Gareth Williams with no chance.

It now became obvious that both sides were on the hunt for a two goal lead to try and put the game to bed, and again it was the Doer who took the initiative, when a well worked short free kick from Andrew Davies to Kyle Tovey caught out the napping Lucas defence,Tovey then played a pass through to Matthew Jackson who hit the back of the net making it 4-3 to the Doer.

Shortly after the turn around Lucas levelled with another well taken goal, and for the neutral spectator the game was becoming a goal feast.

Reverting back to a 4-4-2 formation the Doer had a better shape and soon took control of the game.

Fifteen minutes into the second half left back Davies who was having an excellent game twenty yards to the edge of the Lucas box,and out jumping the two large central defenders powered the header past the Lucas keeper leaving him with no chance.

With the wind taken out of the Lucas sails the Doer brought on 16 year old Lloyd Davies for his Gwent County debut and what an impact he made.

Virtually with his first touch he ghosted past three defenders before squaring the ball to predator Jenkins to tap in from close range.

With the game now safe with five minutes left skipper Gareth Priest was upended in the Lucas box, the resultant penalty kick was duely dispatched by Jenkins who completed another hat trick, and secured all three points for the Doer.
