Rocky two weeks for Blaenavon as manager and chairman quit

2:13pm Wednesday 1st February 2012

A traumatic two week period has seen Blaenavon Blues chairman Bill Jones and manager Charlie Attard both resign, two outstanding players leave the club, and two 2-1 away defeats leaving the club perilously close to the relegation zone.

Rob Browning was elected Chairman at an EGM, and injured first team player Ryun Huish has taken over the manager's position with help from fellow first teamer Lee Wathen.

After the shock of losing top goal scorer Josh Bull to Welsh league outfit Abertillery Bluebirds shortly before Christmas, Lee Penry and Mike Waite have both transferred to Croesyceiliog.

The Chairman thanked Mike Waite for ten years excellent service to the club and wished him well for the future.

Huish's first game in charge was at A C Pontymister, the home side looked to be strolling at 2-0 but a fine 25 metre strike from Daryl Brenton brought the Blues back into the game, stand-in keeper Jonathan White made several fine saves including a penalty.

This week's visit to Spencer Boys and Youth started well for the Blues, Richard Williams twice made good contact with headers only to see them both fly inches wide of the target.

Craig Tanner should have opened the scoring when the Blues were awarded a penalty, but placed his shot wide.

Ten minutes into the second period and the Blues were in front, young Jamie Brankley kept his head in a crowded goalmouth to score.

Back came Spencers and they scored a good equaliser from a corner.

The poor playing surface was not conducive to good football and this suited the stronger, more physical Spencer side and it came as no surprise when they sealed the result with a scrambled goal.

This defeat means the Blues have not won since October, when they beat Albion Rovers, picking up just one point, at Govilon since.

Everyone at the club must now get behind manager Ryun Huish and give him 100% backing to ensure the club maintains their Gwent County Division one status.
