Garndiffaith's pressure pays off against Croesyceiliog

12:44pm Wednesday 22nd February 2012

Croesyceiliog 26 v Garndiffaith 31 Top of the table Garndiffaith made the short journey down to Croesyceiliog for this rearranged fixture. The game finally got underway after a number of pitch inspections delayed the kick off and after a slow start Garn scrum half Shaun Courtney broke through the home side's defence to score Garn's first try which was converted by Darren Pearce.

The visitors enjoyed a sustained period of pressure which finally paid dividends when Pearce broke through the home side's defence to score the game's second try to which he added the conversion.

With the score at 14-0 the Garn were on top and added a further three points from the boot of Pearce leaving the home side 17-0 down at half time.

The half time team talk from the Croesyceiliog coaches had the desired affect as in the second half they scored 26 unanswered points in the first 20 minutes leaving the visitors 26-17 down with 20 minutes remaining.

The Garn coaches then made a number of changes to try and kickstart the team into some kind of revival and the team duly delivered when Shaun Courtney raced away for his second try of the game to which Pearce once again added the conversion leaving the visitors just one score behind at 26-22.

Croesyceiliog by now were doing all the defending with the Garn increasing the pace of the game at every opportunity leaving the home side out on their feet. This hard work finally paid off when in the last few seconds of the game the Garn broke through the home side's defence only to be stopped once again, good work from the Garn pack helped to recycle the ball quickly to allow the Garn backs to spread the ball wide for winger Matthew Davies to race over in the corner, Pearce once again added the conversion securing a 31-26 bonus point win.
