Talywain get through to Swalec Bowl quarter finals

12:47pm Wednesday 22nd February 2012

Cardiff Quins 18 - 25 Talywain Talywain progressed to the quarter finals of the Swalec bowl, with a first half display which was the best half of rugby they have played for many seasons.

Made all the better by the fact that four backs had to pull out with injuries on the morning of the match and two of the back row were called into emergency cover.

The game was played at a fast pace and Talywain tore into the Cardiff side and put them on the back foot and scored three tries in the process. Nathan Davies started the scoring with a long range penalty, then came the tries the first by Adam Williams who came onto a perfect pass by Scrum half Nathan Powell to split the defence and go over.

The backs were running some nice angles but the forwards were rampant none more than Steve Mayley and Martin Savage who himself barged over for the second try.

With all the team contributing, after some more fine work Dale Nash in his first game back after injury crossed for the third try.

The try was converted by Nathan Davies to give Talywain a half time lead of 22-5.

The second half was a different story, where Talywain had to defend for their lives as Cardiff threw every thing at them and only a solitary penalty by Davies again, was all Talywain had for their efforts although they were held up on the line.

Williams had to leave the field and was replaced by another back row forward Liam Davies who made the number of forwards to three in the backs.

This just shows what a good team spirit they have within the side and all the team and subs must get special praise for the effort put in for this win.
