Doer gain sweet revenge

12:55pm Wednesday 22nd February 2012

RTB Ebbw Vale 0 Doer 3 Cwmffrwdoer Sports travelled to RTB Ebbw Vale on Wednesday evening for this floodlit fixture at Eugene Cross Park, having lost 4-2 to their hosts at home earlier in the season, the Doer were well aware of the task ahead of them in the shape of a robust well organised RTB side.

From the off RTB had the lion's share of possession, having said that the Doer allowed them to play football, all be it in the middle third of the field, which never really threatened the Doer goal.

Shortly into the game RTB became aware of the lethal pace of Doer striker Dan Jenkins who was playing through the channels and leaving the hosts back four for dead.

On the fifteen minute mark Jenkins left his markers all of 25yds out and carrying the ball at speed slotted the ball under the advancing keeper giving the Doer the lead against the run of play.

With the back four of Joel Reed, Robbie Peake, Andrew Davies and Chris Bradbury superb on the night what little the hosts created on goal was dealt with, with a surety which has been sadly lacking for much of the season.

The Doer held on to their slender lead until half time, but it was definitely a different Doer side who returned onto the field after the interval.

From the off Doer went at their hosts and competed in all areas on the park. With Matthew Jackson orchestrating the Doer's attack, it was not long before the Doer began to spread the ball wide to wingers Chris Wilkins and Lea Grimes, who began to deliver good ball into the RTB area.

Skipper Gareth Priest and Kyle Tovey were now winning the midfield battle, and after twenty five minutes of the turn around Jenkins struck again with a similar goal to his first, 2-0 to the Doer.

Second eleven squad members Callen Gregory, Sam Davies and Ben Taylor, replaced Grimes, Willkins and Bradbury, all three replacements gave an excellent account of themselves on the night.

With ten minutes remaining it was Gregory's persistence in the box, which led to a pass to Priest who passed the ball past the RTB keeper into the net making the final score 3-0 to the Doer.
